The Samsung CLX-2160 builds on a platform of a CLP-300 and adds scanning and copying facilities to the value for money printer. Even with a vast array of features the CLX-2160 is still amazing compact and has to be one of the most compact laser MFP around. Running cost are low, a set of Samsung CLX-2160 toner cartridges costing about the same as two sets of inkjet printer cartridges. It is worth mentioning that there are remanufactured Samsung toner cartridges available for the CLX-2160 which cost 50% less than the genuine OEM products further reducing the Samsung CLX-2160’s running costs. Each toner prints less than your average laser toner because they’re physically smaller which helps make the CLX-2160 so compact and they print 2,000 pages for the black and 1,000 pages for each of the colours. Print quality from the CLX-2160 would be best described as average, while mono printing is of a good standard the colour prints leave you a little under whelmed, especially photo prints. This pattern continues in the copying facilities of the CLX-2160, copying black documents is a breeze but it really does struggle with high quality colour prints, and produces blotchy results. Printing speed again is impressive in mono and below average in colour, although the printer did manage to get close to it official figures of 16ppm mono and 4ppm colour. Overall the CLX-2160 is good value for money because it costs almost half the price of any other laser Multi function printer but it does have it weaknesses.
